PenangCares was created to foster a caring community in Penang by encouraging volunteerism in 2002. The website is subsequently revamped in 2010 in hope of serving the community better.

We in SERI realised that lack of a regular supply of volunteers to the Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) as well as the lack of one-stop platform for the potential volunteers/volunteer groups to search for volunteering opportunities in Penang. Through this website, we hope to:

1. Provide a platform for CBOs to post their profile and volunteer opportunities for volunteers to get involved in a social work that interests them.
2. Serve as a directory for CBOs in Penang for anyone – whether individual, group or corporate – to contribute and make life better for others in the spirit of volunteerism, caring and sharing.
3. Channel volunteers to CBOs based on their area of interest.
4. Keep volunteers updated with volunteer opportunities through our mailing list.
